Blogging for Business

By: Dr. Colton

Starting next week in my Internet Marketing class we will be “blogging for business”.  In other words, students will be tracking a company or industry and then blogging about its internet marketing strategies and other interesting observations.   Through lecture materials we will tie in to CRM, brand building, strategy, channels, and of course SEM.   The blog is an applied and innovative class project…we’ll see how it turns out.

Great idea - I run a community relations business in NY and blogging is a valuable tool to better understand issues, place information, read response and guide focus. The down side is that many bloggers use the medium as a bully pulpit without substantiation and that can lead to misinformation, and in my business that can kill valid projects. Like any power tool - use carefully.

As a student who participated in this assignment I found it to be not only rewarding, but very insightful. I was actually against blogging going into the course and now find myself blogging all over. Wonderful concept to add to the class, I truly learned a lot. I hope this is something that you plan to keep with future internet marketers!
