Hello everyone! My name is Rodney Osborne, Jr. I am a 4th year Marketing student in the Saunders College of Business. Maybe you are wondering why I am taking time to write a blog post, even though it is the middle of Week 9 at RIT. The truth is, I really enjoy writing about anything that interests me. I also enjoy any excuse to take a break from my studies, as seriously as I take them.
A little bit about me: I was born in Columbus, OH, but have lived in six different states throughout my life, including Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Michigan. (No, my dad is not in the military.) Unfortunately, I have only been outside of the United States twice; once to Canada when I was much younger, and once to Mexico in high school. I transferred from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, after my freshman year, where I played a year of college basketball. I still enjoy watching and playing basketball, but when I came to RIT, I decided to focus on academics and get involved on campus in other ways.
Currently, I am the President of the Society of African-American Business Students (SAABS), and the President of Adventist Students for Christ, a Christian campus ministries group at RIT. I’m looking to increase awareness about both clubs, provide meaningful meetings for members, and sharpen my leadership skills. I also work at the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences as a Student Marketing Communications Assistant, which has been an awesome experience. I help film and edit student and faculty videos, manage some of CIAS’s social media efforts, and will be working on search engine optimization to improve their award-winning website even more. This job experience has really helped me apply what I’ve learned in the classroom in a practical way.
I’m looking forward to blogging more throughout this year, and am thankful for the opportunity to blog for Saunders. Feel free to find me on Twitter (@rodneyosbornejr), LinkedIn, or Facebook. I’ll be back after exams and final projects for my classes are finished… until next time, take care!
