However, to other business students, I am sure that there is still a blurred line about the definition of these two terms. Therefore, this blog’s goals are to clarify these two marketing terms and to give some suggestions to gain more knowledge about Inbound Marketing.
Inbound marketing includes several effective Internet marketing methods such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Social Media Marketing (Facebook, Twitters, LinkedIn, etc.) and Content Marketing- the interactive format of information that is translated to infographics, e-books, video, etc. – to attract customers’ attention. Businesses all around the world see that Inbound marketing is the leading method to market the business nowadays because it focuses more in market segmentation, customers’ satisfaction and business profitability.
Outbound marketing includes direct mail or newspaper, cold call, telemarketing, traditional advertising, spam, flyers. Outbound marketing is more expensive and time consuming. Many businesses think that it is less effective.
I am obsessed with Inbound Marketing because it is more interactive with the customers. It targets the right person at the right time. We are now engaged with technology more than ever and it seems to me that the easiest way to approach the prospective. Most of my knowledge about Inbound marketing are acquired from Hubspot. Hubspot is the company that provide marketing software to businesses and they offer free classes about Inbound Marketing online. They also have the Inbound annual conference in August- which is great for networking.
You can also take classes at RIT to learn more about Inbound Marketing. My most favorite class is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) that is taught by Professor Raj Murthy. In his class, I learned about optimizing a webpage, google optimization, Email optimization, basic algorithm of Google. This is the most interesting class ever since you will learn the most basic knowledge about Inbound marketing. It is technical and not too difficult for a business major to handle. It’s worth the stress.
