Another Treo
In November 2003, I was an early adopter of a new breed of technology- the smartphone. In my case it was the Treo 600, a Palm-OS offering from Handspring. A lot has changed since then. Palm bought Handspring just before splitting into separate software and hardware businesses. Oh, and smartphones became a huge success. Especially the Treo.
This device really changed the way I work. Instead of doing things in large batches, I could do them in small bursts. Waiting in line? Why not check email or chat? I realized at the time that we would all be connected soon…Always online. Not a wonderful future, but to me more or less an inevitable one. So began my research stream on mobile collaboration. I am analyzing the results of my first two experiments this summer. Look for an draft paper from me soon.
Today, I am told my new Treo 700p will arrive. It has EVDO networking for fast data rates on Verizon. It has a better camera, more memory and best of all it will accept all of my incoming calls without my doing quarterly surgery on the device. I am excited.
